Aldi is tapping into the viral "blind box" craze by giving shoppers the chance to score free grocery bundles packed with popular products. The limited-time promotion launches this month and could quickly become one of the retailer's most talked-about initiatives of the summer.
Inspired by the surprise unboxings made famous by the fashion, beauty and collectibles industries, Aldi's latest campaign is designed to turn grocery shopping into an experience customers can share online.

What are Aldi blind boxes?
The Aldi Blind Box promotion features four different themes: snack, fiber, protein and mystery. Each box contains a curated selection of trending products, pantry staples and other customer favorites.
The snack box promises a mix of crave-worthy treats perfect for grazing, while the protein and fiber boxes tap into ongoing health and wellness trends. The mystery box, meanwhile, offers an assortment of surprise food items for shoppers who enjoy the unexpected.
"The ALDI Blind Box taps into the excitement our fans already feel walking our aisles," Bridget Kozlowski, Aldi's director of communications, said in a statement. "With surprise unboxings more popular than ever, this is our way of helping customers discover even more favorites."
How to get a free Aldi blind box
Aldi will release one new blind box each day from June 22 through June 25. Customers can visit the designated campaign website, sign up and provide their shipping information to claim a box while supplies last.
The grocery chain hasn't revealed how many boxes will be available, meaning shoppers hoping to snag one may want to act quickly when each daily drop goes live.
Aldi is leaning into social media trends
Instagram will play a major role in the promotion, with Aldi using its social channels to tease and reveal which themed box is dropping next.
The initiative is the latest example of Aldi embracing internet culture to connect with shoppers. From launching stylish merchandise to creating memes and social-first campaigns, the discount grocer has found creative ways to build excitement beyond its store aisles.
